Romain Folz Announced As AmaZulu Head Coach

Former Marumo Gallants head coach Romain Folz was announced on Sunday morning, 09 October as the head coach of AmaZulu Football Club with Ayanda Dlamini serving as the assistant coach. Both Folz and Dlamini will be at the club until the end of the 2022/23 season.

“I repeat my personal promise to our fans that I will do everything in my power to bring back the glory days at AmaZulu. We are championship material, there is no doubt about that. We can and will challenge for trophies both domestically and continentally. As the oldest club in the DStv Premiership, Usuthu is a heritage of South African football and therefore we must self-correct expeditiously whenever we hit snags,” Club president Sandile Zungu said in the statement released.

The announcement comes days after the club released a statement on 6 October 2022 stating that the team has parted ways with Brandon Truter with no explanation of the move. Truer had been in charge of AmaZulu for 19 games, winning seven, drawing seven and losing five games.

Folz also has his own share of drama in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) he left Marumo Gallants after being at the helm for six games with no win to his name since being announced as head coach on 17 June 2022 leaving the team on 04 September 2022.

On 7 December 2020 AmaZulu issued a statement stating that Dlamini was stepping down from his head coach position and will be assigned to club development ranks as a coach. It is surprising that now he is back as an assistant coach of the senior team two years later.

Folz and Dlamini have a huge task ahead of them as they take on Kaizer Chiefs in the second leg of the MTN 8 semi finals on 23 October 2022 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban.
