South African boxer Zolani Tete has passed away following a fatal shooting. The 38 year old two-time world boxing champion was shot dead while sitting in a car outside his Mdantsane home. Unfortunately, a 27 year old female passenger also sustained serious injuries from the shooting.
Four suspects are now in police custody in connection with the murder of former boxing champion Zolani Tete on Friday. One of the suspects is expected in the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing murder and attempted murder charges.
Police made three more arrests on Sunday, two in Scenery Park and one in Mdantsane.
Tete held the WBO bantamweight title from 2017 to 2019, as well as the IBF super-flyweight title in 2014. He was later given a four-year ban, which lapsed in July this year. Tete had 29 wins in 34 fights, with four losses and one no-contest.
