The Vitality Netball World Cup 2023 is set to take place in Cape Town from the 28th July to 6th August 2023. President of Netball South Africa Cecilia Molokwane and Netball South Africa CEO Blanche De La Guerre collected the Netball trophy from London on the 25th of May and delivered it in South Africa ahead of the tournament.
The tournament which is set to take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre will be the first Netball Works Cup hosted in the African continent.
The Netball World Cup trophy will be on a provincial tour before the competition next month. The trophy will be visiting all 9 provinces in South Africa until it reaches it’s final destination in the Western Cape.
The trophy landed in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Durban, followed by its second stop in Mpumalanga on the 25-29th of May before it made its way to the Union Buildings in Pretoria where it was presented to President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Minister of Sports along with his deputy.
Speaking on the excitement of the trophy tour, Africa Netball and Netball South Africa President Cecilia Molokwane said: “Let it be an African spectacle, showcasing our culture and our uniqueness as South Africa because we are a rainbow nation and to me showing that Africa can do it and women can do it is the most important thing.”
