The announcement sent out by Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club (FC) on Monday afternoon, 24 October 2022 has left fans talking on social media.
The treble champions announced that Rulani Mokwena is now the head coach, Steve Kompela is the first team coach and Manqoba Mngqithi is the senior coach. The changes are effective immediately.
As per the statement, “the changes were necessitated by the poor performances and unconvincing victories that the club has experienced for quite some time.”
The announcement comes two days after Sundowns lost 3-0 to Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 semi finals at Peter MokabaStadium subsequently crashing out of the MTN8 with a 3-0 aggregate score.
Previously, Mokwena and Mngqithi were both co coaches with Kompela as the senior coach.
The announcement comes as a surprise as Sundowns is at the top of the DSTV Premiership league table and are performing well in the Champions League.
