Enock Mwepu has been forced into early retirement. The Brighton and Hove Albion player shared via Twitter on Monday Morning, 10 October 2022 that he is retiring from football at the age of 24. He disclosed that he is retiring due to medical advice he has received.
“Enock Mwepu has been forced to end his playing career following the diagnosis of a hereditary heart condition,” read the statement released by Brighton and Hove Albion.
The statement further explained, “the condition, which can worsen over time, would put Enock at an extremely high risk of suffering a potentially fatal cardiac event, if he were to continue playing competitive football.”
The player from Zambia who has 23 caps got ill while on a flight to join the national team.
Mwepu made 27 appearances for the team since arriving in July 2021.
The news have sent Twitter into a frenzy as clubs such as Manchester City and Arsenal have sent out well wishes for Mwepu.
