DSTV Premiership Weekend Wrap Up

There were not a lot of games played during the weekend as most teams participating in the DSTV Premiership were playing in the 2022 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League.

On Friday evening, 07 October 2022 Supersport United was up against Sekhukhune United at the Lucas Moripe stadium in Pretoria.

Bradley Grobler scored an early goal in the 15th minute of the game for Matsatsantsa a Pitori but that did not stop the away team from creating scoring opportunities in the first half. Just before halftime, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe got a goal for the home team doubling the score into the halftime.

In the second half of the game the home team seemed to be dominating Coach Hunt’s boys, Thamsanqa Gabuza scored a beautiful goal in the 60th minute of the game making it 3-0.  Babina Noko would retaliate three minutes later and score a consolation goal courtesy of Thami Masiya. Thatayaone Ditlhokwe won player of the match as the match ended in 3-1.

TS Galaxy FC and Swallows FC went head to head in the first match for Saturday, 08 October 2022 at Mbombela stadium in Mpumalanga ended in a goalless draw as both teams were unable to score goals in 90 minutes with Mshengu Tshabalala  .

The second match of the day was between Orlando Pirates and Richards Bay FC at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg also ended in a goalless draw with Simphiwe Mcineka winning player of the match.

On Sunday afternoon, 09 October 2022 only one game was played between Stellenbosch FC and Kaizer Chiefs FC at the DHL Cape Town Stadium. The game started off with Chiefs dominating Stellies in the first half with the goalkeeper making multiple saves.

The home team were the first to break the tie in the 29th minute of the game courtesy of a goal by Nhlanhla Mgaga. The goal would not stop Chiefs from dominating the game as one would believe that it is Chiefs leading.

In the last minutes of the first half, Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana was brought down in the box and the referee awarded a penalty kick.  Bimenyimana wasted no time in converting the penalty into a goal ensuring that it was a stalemate by halftime in Cape Town.

The second half would resume with a shocker for fans as the home team player caused a handball in the box and an automatic penalty was called. Bimenyimana took the penalty and successfully converted, putting the Glamor boys in the lead for the first time in the game.

A Stellies player received a red card and they were down to 10 men in the 55th minute of the match, a penalty was awarded again to the away team. Bimenyimana took the penalty and managed to score a hat trick of penalties.

Bimenyimana’s third penalty goal ended Stellies dreams of winning the match and even getting an equalizer. Edmilson Dove won player of the match.
