DSTV Premiership Weekend Wrap Up

The 2022/23 DSTV Premiership is still in full swing with teams facing off in an attempt to dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns from first position.

Maritzburg United faced off with Golden Arrows on 28 October 2022 at the Harry Gwala stadium in a heated Friday night encounter.  A brace scored by former Kaizer Chiefs player Ryan Moon in the 28th and 46th minutes of the match ensured that Abafana Besthende got their win.   

The highly anticipated Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates only produced one goal courtesy of a long range kick from outside the 18 area in the 74th minute of the match by Yusuf Maart. The match played on 30 October 2022 was a sold out affair at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. Maartwon player of the match.

The second match of Saturday was between Marumo Gallants and Cape Town City FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. Gallants dominated the match from the first half when Ranga Chivaviro scored a brace in the 42nd and 90 minute of the match putting the final nail to the coffin after City equalized in the 84th minute by a goal from Wayde Layak.

The 2021/22 DSTV Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns were up against Royal AM in the last match for the night at the Chatsworth stadium in KwaZulu. Sundowns dominated the match from start to finish, winning with a 3-0 scoreline courtesy of goals from Neo Maema, Cassius Mailulaand Surprise Ralani. Mailula won player of the match.

Four matches played on Sunday, 30 October 2022. Chippa United made a mother of all comebacks after trailing behind Richards Bay during halftime to end the match on a 3-3 draw at the Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg. It was raining goals with Ronaldo Maarman, Ronald Pfumbidzai and Etiosa Ighodaro scoring goals for Chippa and Somila Ntsundwana and Zuko Mdunyelwa for the Natal Rich Boyz.

A goal scored by AmaZulu FC player Larry Bwalya in the 31stminute of the match was the only goal that separated Usuthu and Stellenbosch FC as the match ended on  1-0.

TS Galaxy and Sekhukhune United played to a one all draw at Mbombela Stadium, Mpumalanga courtesy of goals from Xola Mlambo and Victor Letsoalo in the first half of the match.

The last match of the weekend between Swallows FC and Supersport United ended on a one all draw due to goals scored by Lindokuhle Mtshali and Thulani Hlatswayo respectively.
