Banyana Banyana Off To 2022 Total Energies WAFCON Final

Banyana Banyana continue to make the nation proud at the 2022 Total Energies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The team won against Zambia in the semi-finalsto book a spot in the final on 23 July 2022 in Morocco last night, they will face Morocco in the final.

Banyana faced a Zambian team that was not willing to go down without a fight as Linda Motlhalo’s penalty conversionin the 93rd minutes, is the only goal that separated the two sides.

The penalty awarded by referee Lidya Tafesse Abebe in the dying minutes of the game was controversial as some people believe that the referee should have not awarded a penaltywhile others agree with the referee.

Zambian captain Grace Chanda received the woman of the match. Zambia will face Nigeria in the third and fourth place playoffs.

Coach Ellis’ girls will be playing in their second consecutive final and hoping to win the 2022 WAFCON having lost out 4-3 in the penalty shootouts to Nigeria in the 2018 final.
