The ANC addressed the significant issue during its media briefing at Chief Albert Luthuli House this afternoon. ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula attributed the deadlock to the Democratic Alliance (DA), blaming them for delays in appointing MECs in Gauteng Province.
Mbalula stated that the DA initially presented demands including three MEC portfolios and the position of Deputy Speaker in the Provincial Legislature. However, the DA later withdrew these demands, prompting negotiations to restart. This delay led the ANC to initiate discussions with other political parties.

Yesterday, negotiations between the ANC and DA, represented by Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana and Federal Chair Helen Zille, among others, failed to reach an agreement. The main point of contention was portfolio allocations.
Mbalula set a deadline for the DA to respond by 2 pm today regarding their participation. Panyaza Lesufi is scheduled to announce Gauteng’s cabinet by 8 pm this evening, a decision that will determine the DA’s inclusion or exclusion from the 7th Provincial Administration.
