NPA Drops Charges Against Jub Jub Due to Lack of Evidence

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has withdrawn rape, assault, and attempted murder charges against uyajola 9/9 television presenter and rapper Molemo Katlego Maarohanye, popularly known as Jub Jub.

NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane stated the decision to drop the charges against Maarohanye followed a “careful” review of the police case docket and the prosecutor’s report, along with additional information provided by the defence. Mjonondwane says, “The office of the DPP concluded that there are no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution.”

The charges against Jub Jub arose after his ex-girlfriend, actress, and model Amanda du Pont  accused him of rape and attempted murder in February 2022. Du Pont had made these allegations public in a December 2021 social media video, prompting three other women to come forward with similar claims.

Mjonondwane reiterated the NPA’s commitment to addressing allegations of sexual violence but emphasised the need for sufficient admissible evidence. “Unfortunately, in this case, there were no prospects of a successful prosecution, hence the withdrawal of charges,” she added.

Jub Jub was granted bail for R10,000 after his arrest, but now walks free as the NPA drops the charges due to insufficient evidence.
