Zambia Kicks Bafana Bafana Out of the COSAFA CUP 2023

South Africa’s National soccer team Bafana Bafana was taken out of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup Semi-final 2023 on Friday 14 July 2023, at the King Zwelithini Stadium. Their COSAFA Cup Journey was ended by their 2-1 loss against Zambia.

Bafana Bafana scored their first goal through Tshegofatso Mabasa 44’, within the first half of the match against Zambia. Then Zambia retaliated within the first five minutes of the second half through Albert Kangwanda 69’, whom scored Zambia’s first goal in the match.

From there, the two teams fought tooth and nail to score the winning goal since they were now equal. However, Golden Mashata 50’ came to the rescue for Zambia, as he scored the winning goal for Zambia against South Africa within 23 minutes of the second half, through his 18-yard free kick. 

The Game stats are as follows; South Africa had 56% of the ball possession whilst Zambia had 44%. South Africa Scored 1 goal whilst Zambia scored 2. South Africa took 4corners, and Zambia took 3 corners. South Africa had 5 shots on target and Zambia also had 5 shots on target. South Africa had 7 shots wide, Zambia also had 7 shots wide. Both teams had 10 fouls. South Africa got 2 offside offences, whilst Zambia got 1 offside offence.

Within the last 15 minutes of the match, South Africa had multiple opportunities to redeem themselves, however, Zambia thoroughly defended their win against South Africa. This ultimately made Zambia victorious against Bafana Bafana.

Following its semi-final victory, Zambia is set to face Lesotho in a final match on Sunday 16 July 2023. The winner will take home the title of COSAFA Cup 2023.
