In a shocking revelation, Jada Pinkett-Smith recently revealed that she and her husband Will Smith (55) have been separated since 2016… that’s seven years ago. News of their separation took social media by storm with an interview clip of Jada speaking about the split circulating online.
The actress shares in her new book “Worthy” that she and husband Will Smith are no longer romantically involved even though they are still married. Jada goes on to discuss details of their high profile marriage in the book, which will leave many shocked!
In and interview with the Today Show, 52 year old Jada further shared that she and Will have no intentions of legally getting a divorce.
“I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce,” she said. “We will work through whatever. And I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
Jada also confirmed that she and Will live separately and have been doing so for year even before Will slapped Chris Rock last years Oscar Awards.
In a separate interview with People magazine, Jada shared that she initially thought that the slap was a skit. She did not believe that her husband could really slap Chris Rock live on the Oscars stage. Following the shocking incident, Will Smith was banned from attending the awards for 10 years. He also went on to resign from the Academy’s board.
“I thought, ‘This is a skit,’” she told the magazine. Like many viewers, she did not think Smith’s slap real. “I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him.’” It wasn’t until her husband returned to his chair that she “even realised it wasn’t a skit”.
She recalls asking Smith, who went on to win the best actor Oscar and delivered a tearful speech, if he was OK when the two were finally alone after the show. “I’m going to be by his side,” she said, “but also allow him to have to figure this out for himself.”
“We’re still figuring it out,” she told People of the state of their marriage now. “We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”
Will and Jada Smith married in Baltimore in December 1997 and the couple share two adult children together, Jaden and Willow, in addition to Smith’s son Trey from a prior marriage.
