The New BMW 3 Series Mzansi Edition takes centre stage in this week’s weekly wheels title. The 3 Series is BMW’s best-selling model, and it possesses both a stylish and yet sporty character, and it now comes with more modern features as standard.
“The 3 Series Mzansi Edition celebrates an iconic BMW model with a South African twist.”, says BMW on their website.

Exterior
One of the noticeable changes to the exterior of the car, is the newly added led lights on the iconic “kidney grill”. According to BMW, the lights on the grill illuminate when the car’s door is opened, and before the car is locked.
Since the car comes with BMW’s M package as standard, it will come with carbon fibre mirrors, spoilers,19” M wheels, red glossy brake callipers and a gloss black rear diffuser. These features therefor ultimately give the car a more aggressive and sporty appearance at first glance.

Interior
In terms of interior, the first thing you will notice is the M shadow lights, which illuminate on the ground as soon as you open the car’s door. With regards to the dashboard, BMW did not change much, however the only difference is that BMW now went with the “less is more” technique.
This is because the car’s dashboard now has less buttons clustering the dashboard. From now onwards, the driver will now access other features of the car through the 12.3” BMW Live Cockpit Professional.
The car will also come with M branded seatbelts to give the driver a sporty feel. Ambient lighting will also be included in the package.

Performance
The 3 Series has 3 engine variants to choose from;
320i petrol: it has a fuel consumption of 6.3 litres per 100km. This engine is for buyers who want a standard 4-cylinder BMW that drives on patrol, and will use the car to ‘normally’ drive from point A to point B.
320i diesel: the diesel version of the 320i engine consumes the least amount of fuel compared to the other 2 engine options. It consumes 4.6 litres of fuel per 100km. Amongst BMW enthusiasts, many would vouch for consumers to opt for the diesel 4- cylinder engine. As it is fuel efficient, and most owners claim the engine to be more reliable compared to the petrol version.
330i petrol: The 330i is also a 4-cylinder engine however, it is purposely built for sporty drivers. It consumes 6.4 litres of fuel per 100kms. This particular engine is meant for buyers who will use the car for track racing on weekends, or just want to drive a fast BMW.

Cost:
BMW 320i Mzansi Edition: R943 000
BMW 320d Mzansi Edition: R993 800
BMW 330i Mzansi Edition: N/A
Fun Fact: Did you know that BMW once produced airplane engines during World War 1. This was because the supply of German airplane engines was lower than the demand. BMW then saw this opportunity and stepped up to try and breach the gap, by manufacturing aircraft engines.
