Swedish car manufacture Volvo, recently launched its new electric powered compact SUV, the Volvo EX30 on 07 June 2023. The EX30 is said to be the most affordable electric car money can buy in South Africa.
South African car consumers can expect the EX30 to hit dealership floors around early next year, in 2024. It will be the second electric vehicle offered by Volvo in South Africa, after the Volvo XC40 was launched in South Africa back in 2021.
It is going to available in different models:
EX30 Core Single Motor- R775 900
EX30 Plus Single Motor ER- R865 900
EX30 Plus Twin Motor Performance- R935 900
EX30 Ultra Single Motor ER- R965 900
EX30 Ultra Twin Motor Performance- R995 900
“The fully electric EX30 might be our smallest ever SUV, but it’s a big deal for our customers and a big deal for us as a company. We like to say the EX30 is small yet mighty, because it delivers on everything you’d want from a Volvo, it’s an outstanding product which is safe and designed around people and their needs.” Says Volvo Chief Executive Officer Jim Rowan.

From a design perspective, the EX30 still embodies the design values of the Volvo brand, just smaller. It has a long wheel base, large wheels, equal overhangs that brings refinement and balance to the exterior of the car.
Now, if you’re a consumer looking for a vehicle that delivers on performance, it is best to go for the EX30 Twin motor model. This particular model is equipped with an NMC battery, along with a second additional electric motor. This combined with the all-wheel drive system of the EX30, the car is able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. It has power output of 315kW (428hp), which makes it the fastest accelerating car Volvo has ever built.

Since most consumers are worried about the battery range of electric vehicles and the amount of time they require to charge, the Twin Motor model can charge from 10-80% in an estimated time of 25 minutes.
Lower spec models of the EX30 have a battery capacity of 134kW, and the Twin Motor model has 153kW of battery capacity. The Single Motor version, is capable of achieving an estimated 480km of driving range from single charge.
Volvo has a goal to provide its customers with the freedom to move in more personal, sustainable and safe way. It aims to go fully electric by 2030, and it aims to keep on reducing its carbon footprint.
