Tyla Enters The Billboard Hot 100 with Hit Single “Water”

South African singing sensation Tyla is breaking international records and this is only the beginning.

The 21 year old’s hit single “Water” made its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 after trending for several weeks on TikTok. “Water” is the first solo single by a South African artist to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart since Hugh Masekela’s “Grazing in the grass” 55 years ago.

“Tyla debuts at number 67 on this week’s Hot 100. It is her first career entry on the chart,” US music and entertainment magazine Billboard, which compiles the list, said on Monday, ahead of the release of the week’s list.

The singer took to social media to react to Billboards exciting announcement sharing “I’m a South African girl born and raised in Johannesburg. This is crazy,”

“Water” was released in July and started gaining popularity in August following the singer posting videos of herself dancing to her hit song on Tik Tok. Since then, the song has blown up thanks to the “Water challenge” on Tik Tok. “Water” has been used in over 1.2 million Tik Tok videos making it a viral sensation. The song has so far surpassed 3.6 million views on YouTube and attracted 10.7 million monthly Spotify listeners for Tyla.

We’re now crossing fingers for a remix of the song!
