[TV FAB]: Sana Mchunu and Lerato Mvelase Star in “Icala”

Award winning actress Sana Mchunu who is known for her hilarious character of Zodwa on a popular telenovela “Gomora” has bagged yet another acting role. Sana is set to co-star along side the multitalented Lerato Mvelase on a new show called Icala. Icala will premier on Monday the 09th of October 2023. The show will air every Monday at 20h00pm on DSTV channel 161.  

Sana has also appeared on Show like Ekasi: Our Stories, Gauteng Maboneng, Muvhango, “The Queen” and recently been on “Gomora” where she has played the character of Zodwa since the show started to date and people grew to love her more. Sana won multiple awards since the beginning of her career. In 2020 she won the royalty soapie award for best supporting actress and also won the DSTV viewers choice awards in 2022. Her incredible talent does not go unnoticed.

Award winning actress Lerato Mvelase has appeared on shows like “Justice Served” on Netflix South Africa, “The Estate” and “Isibaya”. She is also known for her exceptional presenting skills on “Sengkhathele”. Lerato bagged a nomination on the Emmy awards in 2010 and she recently Won the SAFTA (South African Film and Television Awards) in September 2023. She will also make an appearance as a leading lady in “Icala”.

This show will bring more familiar faces like Velile Makhoba and Kennedy Stab and it will also introduce new talent of Athie Cwele. Icala will be a replacement of the previous Mzansi loved comedy series “Magaeng” which casted the likes of Thato Molmlamu, Khabonina Qubeka, Thato Immaculate, Keke Mphuti, Tina Mnomzana, Sdumo Mtshali ,the talented Themba Ndaba and many more thespians who made this masterpiece a success. Magaeng ended after it aired for 13 weeks and Mzansi loved every piece of it.

The director of the local entertainment channels at M-Net Shirley Adonisi said “Our Mzansi Magic’s Mondays are already bursting with local gems, but with Icala, expect overload of emotions. A soul-stirring story blended with some laughs ,it’s real , it’s raw and trust us you do not want to miss this rollercoaster”.
