South African Hall of Fame to induct Dr. Kaizer Motaung

The South African Hall of Fame recently announced on various social media platforms that it plans on honouring and adding Kaizer Chiefs Football Club Founder and Chairman Dr. Kaizer Motaung on the SA hall of fame. His induction will take place on 09 November 2023.

“We are very excited to announce that Dr. Kaizer MotaungFounder and Chairman of the renowned @kcfcofficialfootball club, will be inducted into the South African on 09 November 2023, in collaboration with @tsogo_sun.

The induction ceremony, in an extraordinary Collaborationwith Tsogo Sun, will take place at an exclusive Tsogo Sun venue befitting the stature of this monumental occasion.”, says The South African Hall of Fame on their media statement.

The SA hall of fame acknowledges Dr. Kaizer Motaung asan iconic figure within the South African sports industry. It believes that he forms part of many other individuals who played a significant role in terms of shaping the landscape of the football industry in South Africa.

Dr. Kaizer Motaung originally played for Orlando Pirates at the age of 16, his talent took the South African Football League by storm. His talent was later recognised internationally and he was ultimately recruited to play forAtlanta Chiefs, in the inaugural North American Soccer League.

When he returned to South African in 1969, Orlando Pirates was facing internal conflicts being managed by Ewert Nene. As the conflict elevated without any resolution, Dr. Kaizer Motaung formally established KaizerChiefs in 7 January 1970, at 8414 Sentsho Street in Phefeni, Orlando West Soweto. It comprised of few former Orlando Pirates players.

The club started gaining support from various business partners, until it became a force to be reckoned with, winning their first league title in 1974.’ Since then it’s fan base increased, and the iconic rivalry between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs started becoming popular amongst soccer fanatics in South Africa. This contributed to the soccer culture and social fabric of South Africa.

Former President Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the 1995 and 2007 Springbok Rugby World Cup winning teams, Gary Player, and Bafana Bafana’s 1995 African Nations Cup winning team, form part of the South African Hall of Fame inductees.

The induction of Dr. Kaizer Motaung into the South African Hall of Fame marks another milestone within his soccer career, and honours his efforts within the South African soccer landscape.
