On Friday 06 October 2023, the South African weather service warned South Africans against a heat which will take place over the course of the weekend, and it is expected to last until Sunday 08 October 2023.
“A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected to persist over Gauteng, North West, Free State, Francis Baard DM in the Northern Cape, Mpumalanga highveld and the Western parts of Limpopo province until Sunday 08 October 2023.”, says SA Weather in a statement.

According to the SA Weather Service, one of the impacts of a heat wave is that when humans experience extremely high temperatures, their ability to cool their bodies through sweating is reduced. This therefore increases the risk of getting hypothermia, which can leave its victims with drowsiness, memory loss, confusion, shivering etc.

Few of the most serious health and safety concerns in an extremely hot environment are; heat exhaustion, heat stroke, heat cramps, dehydration, and respiratory disease.

SA Weather’s advice to South Africans on how protect themselves against this heat wave is “stay out of the heat, stay hydrated, wear light clothes, keep your home cool, and use sunscreen.
STAY COOL
