SA Footballer Hlompho Kekana Hangs His Boots

Former Mamelodi Sundowns Captain and Bafana Bafana player, Hlompho Kekana announced today through a statement on Twitter that he is retiring from football.

As per the statement, “I know everyone will ask what is next. I am enjoying my work at SABC. And I am putting together my next set of dreams and seeing what opportunities arise.”

The Limpopo born midfielder is currently a football analyst for the SABC.

The 36-year-old was released by Mamelodi Sundowns during the 2021/22 season having played more than 350 games for the team.

He also won numerous trophies with Mamelodi Sundownssuch as the DSTV Premiership title, 2016 CAF Champions League and the 2017 CAF Super League.

Kekana was nominated twice for the prestigious FIFA PuskasAward in 2016 and 2020.
