Another e-hailing services vehicle has been torched at Protea Glen Mall, Soweto on 06 June 2023 just after 18:00 pm. The motive behind the torching of that vehicle is still unknown.
This incident comes after several Uber and Bolt vehicles were also set alight last week Thursday, on the 01 June 2023 outside Maponya Mall in Soweto. E-Hailing Partners Council announced on twitter last week Friday that four cars were torched and vandalised, and also uber & bolt drivers were assaulted, resulting in one of them being shot.

“More e-hailing (Uber & Bolt cars attacked in Soweto, seen here is a car that was torched in Protea Glen Mall after 6pm. We condemn this barbaric act & call on relevant stakeholders to rise against this. It is regrettably & thanks to @GovernmentZA for failing to regulate e-hailing.” Says E-Hailing Partners Council on twitter on Tuesday 06 May 2023.
This Protea Glen Mall incident left many people making speculations on social media platforms, alleging that the taxi industry, as well as the metered taxis are to blame for the recent attacks on Uber & Bolt vehicles.
“When will the government take us seriously and regulate this industry to stop all this madness. This is totally wrong and can’t be allowed.” Commented @Carol91588585 on Twitter.
“In Protea Glen Mall there real Uber cars and there are also some private cars that compete with Ubers, those cars target uber customers and ask to transport them for a discount…it is just mixed up and requesting an Uber from there is an extreme sport I am not surprised.” Says @mashoodoZ on Twitter.
“Just pure criminals and Jealousy. Quick to destroy and burn when it belongs to others. Destroying someone else’s livelihood. This person might be a son father and husband to someone. I have never seen such evil people.
