[RIP]: South Africa’s First Black Miss SA, Cynthia Shange Has Passed Away

South African beauty queen turned actress Cynthia Shange has passed away at the age of 76.

Shange was the first black Miss South Africa, after been crowned in the 1970s. She went on to represent South Africa at Miss World where she placed 5th. Cynthia is also the mother of popular media personality Nonhle Thema.

As an actress, she graced our screens weekly on SABC 2’s Muvhango, Shaka Zulu and Udeliwe. According to reports, Cynthia passed away at a hospital in KwaZulu-Natal after an illness.“With profound sadness, the family of Cynthia Shange shares the news of her passing at the age of 76. Shange, a legendary figure in South African arts and culture, left an indelible mark as a beauty queen and a revered actress. She passed away in the early hours of today [Monday] in a hospital in KwaZulu-Natal after facing illness,” the family said.

More details of her memorial and burial will be released soon.
