Cape Town based female rapper Brie Lee has passed away. Brie, real name Liyema Ndibi was battling cancer for over a year and unfortunately lost her battle on Saturday night.
Her family released the statement below:
It is with deep sadness that we confirm the passing of Brie Lee, also known as Liyema Ndibi. She was a beloved artist, a voice, and a messenger with bright and sharp talent. We had the great honour of working with her. Brie was a loving sister, a cousin, and a dear friend to many. She battled cancer for over a year.
“We are grateful to everyone who supported her and kept her in prayer. Thank you to all who donated toward her amputation. She did undergo the procedure, but later experienced breathing difficulties. Every day was a fight, and she fought bravely until her last breath. During this difficult time, we ask that Brie Lee’s family, loved ones, and friends be given privacy and space to grieve. She always wanted to be remembered for preaching truth through her artistry. Honouring that truth is how we honour her. Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course,” reads the statement.
