South African footballer Percy Tau has achieved a remarkable feat by winning his second CAF Champions League title. By doing so, he the first South African player to win two CAF Champions League titles. Tau’s team, Al Ahly, emerged victorious in the final against Wydad AC, securing their record-extending 11th African triumph.
In the final, which took place on the 11th of June 2023, at the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco, Al Ahly displayed their dominance. Al Ahly won after defender Mohamed Abdelmoneim scored a late equaliser to grab a 1-1 draw against Wydad AC in the second leg of the final that secured a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Tau’s exceptional performances throughout the tournament did not go unnoticed. Pitso Mosimane, Al Ahly’s former coach, recognized Percy Tau’s contributions and selected him as the best player of the tournament. Tau’s skill, creativity, and goals played a significant role in Al Ahly’s success as he scored five goals in and provided as many assists in 12 appearances.
This second CAF Champions League title adds to Tau’s already impressive football career. Having previously won his first Champions League title with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016, Tau has now carved his name in African football history with another triumph.
