Get your best outfits ready for the popular annual Durban July event, which will take place at the Greyvilleracecourse in Durban, on Saturday 1 July 2023. The theme for this year’s event is “Out Of This World”.
Why attend this particular event you ask? This event is South Africa’s most famous race horse event. This event will feature celebrities, the country’s best fashion designers. There will also be entertainment as well as hospitality based on the cosmic theme.
The best horses in South Africa will be raced on the Greyville racecourse during the Durban July event. Last year’s winner, ‘Sparkling Water’ might possibly return again for this year’s race. ‘Do It Again’, ‘Kommetdieding’, ‘Linebacker’, ‘Safe Passage’ and ‘Pomp And Power’, might all return for the race again.
The entrance fee for this event is R230 and the tickets can be purchased via Ticketpro, Spar stores, and few other retail outlets. Those who won’t be able to make it to this year’s Durban July event, can stream the event on Gallop TV or watch the broadcast on SuperSport. The full race day coverage will begin at 13:00.
The Durban July history dates way back in 1897, when the first Grade One was staged at the Greyville racecourse. Since then, the annual race event has been won by various South Africa’s best horses. The event is usually hosted on the first Saturday of July, hence its popular name, Durban July.
The horse race event was originally run over 1600m, until it was later changed to 2200m in 1970, when Court Day took out the Group 1 prize for connections. The Durban July event will be hosted for the 127th time, in the year 2023, since the first event in 1897.
Although the main part about this event is horseracing, fashionable outfits dominate this event. As attendees of the event informally compete with each other as to who wore the best outfit for this horse-racing event.
