Malibongwe Maketa named Proteas Interim Head Coach

Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced earlier today, 02 November 2022 that Malibongwe Maketa is appointed the Proteas interim head coach for the upcoming three-match Australia Test Tour.

As per the statement, “Maketa who is currently the South African A coach and national academy lead, will take charge of the test squad from December until early January as they prepare to face Australia in their penultimate series of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). South Africa find themselves placed second on the table behind Australia following two series wins, one loss and one draw in the second cycle of the WTC.”

The current Proteas coach Mark Boucher resigned in September 2022 and he will step down after the completion of the T20 World Cup that is currently ongoing in Australia. Boucher has been at the helm of the team since December 2019.

Australia Test Tour Fixtures

• 17-21 December 2022: Australia vs South Africa

• 26-30 December 2022: Australia vs South Africa

• 4-8 January 2023: Australia vs South Africa
