The sons of former President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe, Bellarmine Mugabe and his co-accused have abandoned their bail application.
This following the pairs arrest in late February for a shooting incident at Mugabe’s Johannesburg home.
Bellarmine was arrested for allegedly shooting a gardener working at the Mugabe residence after a heated argument. Neighbourhood security reported the incident to police and further stated that this was not the first shooting at the Mugabe residence. However, things took an interesting turn when Bellarmine allegedly hid the gun used during the shooting.
South african police searched for the gun, going as far as employing the assistance of sniffer dogs and divers but to no avail. Bellarmine’s co-accused Tobias Matonhodze was later arrested and the two were charged for attempted murder, possession on a firearm and violating the South African laws of immigration. It was revealed during court appearances that Mugabe was residing in South African illegally.
Today, the pair appeared before the Alexandra Magistrates court for their formal bail application, but instead they chose to abandon bail. The case has now been postponed to 17 March.
