On 09 October 2023 Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallantordered a ‘complete siege’ on Gaza. His decision to order a ‘complete siege’ on the Gaza Strip, is mostly driven by Gaza’s multi-front surprise attack on Israel which took place this past Saturday.
“I have ordered a complete siege on the Gaza Strip. There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed. We are fighting human animals and we act accordingly.”, says Yoav Gallant on a video footage from Al Jazeera.
Following Hamas’ attack on Israel on Saturday, 700 people have been reportedly killed in Israel. On the other hand, about 400 people have lost their lives in Gaza.
Soon after Israeli Defence Minister’s announcement, Israeli Infrastructure Minister also ordered the discontinuation of Israel’s water supplies to the infrastructures in Gaza.
About 130 Israeli civilians have reportedly been held hostage according to the claims made by the Palestinian militant groups. Also, Hamas spokesperson Abdel-latif al-Qanouna, claims that earlier on Monday, some Israelis have already been held captive.
The United States of America have shown their support for Israel and according to U.S. Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin, mentioned that the U.S will send military ships and aircrafts closer to Israel. In the meantime, the violent war between Israel and Palestine continues and civilians from both sides continue to bear the brunt of the war.
