After nearly two weeks since her body was found, ‘Glee’ star Naya Rivera was laid to rest on July 24 in Los Angeles.
The 33 year old’s body was found on July 13 at a California lake days after she rented a boat with her 4 year old son Josey. It is believed that the mother of one saved her sons life by gathering enough strength to put him back on the unanchored boat which was drifting away from them after they had gone swimming in the lake but not enough to get herself back to safety.
On July 8, her son was found alone sleeping on the boat where Naya’s purse, wallet and life jacket were also found. According to Ventura County’s Sheriff Bill Ayub, Rivera’s body was spotted by a boat crew “in the northeastern portion of the lake,” where the water was 35 to 60 feet deep. Naya shared custody of Josey with her ex-husband Ryan Dorsey.
“Her son described being helped into the boat by Naya, who boosted him onto the deck from behind,” Ayub said. “(Her son) told investigators that he looked back and saw her disappear under the surface of the water.”
Naya’s family released the statement below:
