It’s been three years since ‘Gomora’ started airing on Mzansi Magic. The show has captivated audiences across the country and it has become one of South African’s most loved telenovela.
The show is currently producing the last season, with the show coming to an end in October 2023. South African iconic actress Connie Chiume received a warm farewell from her colleagues as she wrapped her final scenes as ‘Sonto Molefe’.

“We thank the cast and crew of Gomora for their incredible work and dedication,” M-Net director of local entertainment channels Shirley Adonisi said at the time.
Adonisi also shared that the reason the show has not been renewed is because of the ever changing consumers viewership preferences. The award-winning production debuted in March 2020 and went on a production break shortly afterwards due to filming restrictions because of the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. It was announced in April 2023 that the final episode of the weeknight drama will air on Friday, 20th of October 2023.

“Last day of shooting with Ma’Connie Chiume on Gomora today. Curtains slowly closing on your no.1 daily show. Thank you, Ma, for leading with love and light,” Gomora director and its production company Seriti Films co-founder Thabang Moleya wrote on social media
Speaking in one of the videos, Chiume’s on-screen daughter Siyasanga Papu (who plays Pretty Molefe) said: “It’s so hard that this day has come. I knew it was coming but, yho, now that it’s here, it’s hard.” Ma, there are a lot of things you’ve taught us, and, personally, there are a lot of things I learned from you,” she continued. Papu said in Chiume, she found a “mother” she could call even at 23:00, and she would answer and offer advice. “So, you’ve become more than just a colleague”, she said.
“Thank you for being a beacon of light, for showing us how things are done.”
“Thank you for your love, thank you for your guidance. Thank you so much for everything.”
