[CARS]: The best Super Gran Tourer on the market

As modern Super Gran Tourers (GT) go, Aston Martin could have possibly made the best one. This is the Aston Martin DB12. Replacing the DB11 V8 and V12 models, the DB12 takes an excellent recipe and adding some more soul and passion. The DB12 sits below the larger DBS Superleggera. It is the best production Aston Martin of today, and that’s down to the interior, exterior, infotainment, and the engine.

Unlike the previous DB11, where it was powered by a 6-litretwin turbo V12 with a 620 horsepower or a smaller 4 litre biturbo AMG V8 with 520 horsepower. The new Aston Martin DB12 is a 4-litre twin turbo V8 powerhouse sourced from Mercedes-AMG. In this configuration it makes a whopping 680 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque without any hybrid assistance.

That power is handled by an eight-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox and an all-new electronic rear slip differential, that’ll send power to the loaded wheel to drive you out of the corners or for big power slides. That slip-differential can also work in conjunction with the stability and traction control to put down an acceleration time of just 3.2 seconds, which is insane considering that it is only rear-wheel drive.

The new platform has been tweaked and adjusted specifically for the Grand Touring part of the DB12, through those long journeys on highways and scenic routes. Although, what’smore surprisingly is how the DB12 behaves in a sporty setting, it will keep up most sports cars and supercars on the track. In its most sporty drive mode, it stiffens up the adaptive suspension for a more engaging driving experience. All while in its comfort or GT setting, the DB12 floats down the road more like the Mercedes-AMG S63 or S65.

Like the Mercedes-AMG S63 or S65, the interior is a game changer. It is very luxurious and very cocooned. It can be optioned out with leather and Alcantara in different coloredstitching or color the seats. The bigger change is the infotainment. Out goes the old Mercedes system and in comes a faster and overall better infotainment. It is integrated into the dashboard and center console, it retains some physical buttons for the drive modes, start button and climate control.

Aston Martin made some big changes on the exterior of the new DB12, it looks like a piece of art. Depending on the spec it can look very elegant or very sporty. Only keeping the rear end of the previous DB11 but adding more carbon fiberoptions and a wider rear. The front end is the biggest change of the exterior, with a larger grille and new LED lights, which gives the DB12 as distinctive look. More like the Aston Martin One-77 hyper car.

An all-round amazing super GT that can compete with the highest of Super GTs like the Bentley Continental GT and Ferrari Dodici Cilindri.
