If you are looking for a reasonably fast car, but do not wish to commit into electrification and the Audi S4 saloon is perfect.
The facelift version of the B9 Audi S4 looks very sleek and very aggressive. It might not be as mean looking like the range topping RS4 Competition. It has bigger air vents surrounded by chrome or an optional black and carbon fibre finish. Some of the air vents are indeed fake but they work as a housing for the driver assistance systems and cameras.
The rear could be the best part of the car, with the updated matrix LEDs and signature S tailpipes. You can option out a sports exhaust which will remind you that you are in an S car not the normal A4. Which is the problem with Audi Sport products. The S4 and RS4 Avant do the daily driver thing so well, that is becoming hard to argue getting the sport models.
While other markets got the S4 as a 3-litre diesel, South Africa thankfully received the very characterful petrol version. The Audi S4 is powered by 3 Litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine with 360 Horsepower/ 269 kw and 440 Nm of torque, driving the Quattro all-wheel drive system via an eight-speed torque convertor. It does the sprint to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds. So, it certainly isn’t no A4.
What is though, is the interior. Which remained unchanged just with a bit of a sporty feel, sporty gauges, and Slabelling all over the cabin. It is very timeless in the Audi S4 during a time where manufacturers are putting huge screens and removing a lot of physical buttons like the BMW M340i and Mercedes-AMG C43. The infotainment itself is starting to feel its age amongst its competition. Although it does have wired and wireless apple car play and android auto connectivity.
And thanks to those 19-inch wheels that come as standard, just manage to quiet down the cabin. It also has little to no wind noise and in town it is extremely subtle. The suspension deals with the imperfections really good like a luxury car.
The Audi S4 saloon is a good package, it is also a good starting point for reasonably fast cars.
