Jeezy has spoken up publicly for the first time since filing for divorce. The rapper took to social media to share a statement confirming his split from wife Jeanie Mai.
The couple has been married for two and a half years and together share a 1 year old baby girl named Monaco.
In his statement, Jeezy (46) said “The decision to end this chapter in my life was not made impulsively and comes with a heavy heart. “Despite this, my love and respect for Jeannie remains and the time we spent together holds a cherished place in my heart.”
Jenkins filed from Mai Jenkins (44) on the 14th of September in Atlanta, Georgia. According to documents obtained by PEOPLE, the filing says the former couple is “currently living in a bona fide state of separation,” and that their marriage is “irretrievably broken” with “no hope for reconciliation.”
News of their separation came as a shock to fans and perhaps even to Jeanie as just a few days before the filing, she was sharing very supportive content for Jeezy’s new book on her Instagram page. However, in his statement Jeezy clarifies that his decision was not impulsive.
Jeanie recently removed her Jenkins last name off her social media pages, confirming to fans that the divorce is indeed going ahead. According to legal documents, the couple who began dating in 2018, had a prenuptial agreement in place.
