The highly anticipated game between Nigeria and Banyana Banyana lived up to expectations as they played 2-1 tonight in Morocco at the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nation (AWCON).
The two goals came in the second half for Banyana Banyana courtesy of Hildah Magaia and Jermaine Seoposenwe.Rasheedat Ajibade scored for the Super Falcons in the dying minutes of the game.
The game was deemed a final before the final as the rivalry between both teams is rife.
Nigeria player, Asisat Oshoala was trying by all means to open the score line but Banyana Banyana defender Noko Matlou and goalkeeper Andile Dlamini kept her at bay.
Woman of the match went to Linda Motlhalo.
Both teams are in Group C alongside Botswana and Burundi.Two top teams of each group after the group stages will progress to the quarterfinals.
The last time these two sides met it was in 2021 when Banyana Banyana won 4-2 in the 2021 Aisha Buhari Women’s Tournament final match held in Nigeria.
