US Coast Guard Rear Adm. John Mauger confirmed on Thursday afternoon, that the crew that was onboard of the Titanic had missing-submersible have been killed by a “catastrophic implosion,” in the deep Atlantic Ocean. The US Coast Guard says that a remotely operated vehicle found the tail cone of the Titan at approximately 1 600 ft away from the bow of the ship.
Members of a large international search team found debris in the general area of the Titanic wreck site early Thursday, and confirmed that the parts from the debris contain parts of that Titanic bound Submersible.
“The debris is consistent with a catastrophic implosion of the vessel.” Says, US Coast Guard Rear Adm. John Mauger, in a media briefing session. He further mentioned that for now it is still early to determine when exactly did the submersible implode.
The missing submersible was piloted by CEO of OceanGate Expeditions, Stockton Rush. The people on who sadly lost their lives are; British adventurer Hamish Harding, French deep-sea explorer and Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Lastly, Ocean Gate Expeditions CEO Stockton Rush.
The Submersible went missing this previous Sunday 18 June 2023. The water vessel was bound towards the Titanic wreck site, when the water vessel suddenly lost communication within 1 hr 45 mins after descending into the Atlantic Ocean at 12 500 ft, according to the BBC.
Ocean Gate Expeditions released a press statement paying tribute to the five men who tragically lost their lives. “These men were true explorers who shared a distinct spirit of adventure, and a deep passion for exploring and protecting the world’s oceans. Our hearts are with these five souls and every member of their families during this tragic time. We grieve the loss of life and joy they brought to everyone they knew.”
