American film maker and director James Gunn announced on twitter the new appearance of the impending movie ‘Superman: Legacy’ by the Warner Bros Entertainment Inc.
In Gunn’s announcement he mentioned that 29-year-old American rising star David Corenswet will be taking over the role of the iconic Superman on the upcoming movie that is due in 2025.
Many other Hollywood publications broke the news which led to more reveals on the movie that Rachel Brosnahan “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” is also set to star in the movie. The multiple Emmy award winning star Brosnahan is set to play the character of “Lois Lane”.
“Accurate! (They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people),” retweeted Gunn on a Hollywood reporter’s article.
The role of Superman has previously been carried by actors Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh and British actor, Henry Cavill.
Superman’s role is deemed as one of the most high-profile as well as highly scrutinized in Hollywood, especially in the pop culture. Henry Cavill played the Superman role in the super-hero-based movie the Man of Steel back in 2013 and briefly returned to the role for the post-credits’ part of the previous years Black Adam.
After Warner Bros integrated with Discovery under its new leadership it placed Guardians of the Galaxy director Gunn in charge of all the movies in the DC Comic superheroes along with the Aquaman producer Peter Safran.
Gunn, together with Safran were tasked with refreshing the DC films which were covered at the box office in comparison to the rival, record-grossing Marvel superhero films, and have endured a series of recent failures including The Flash movie.
The two swiftly signaled a new direction for the franchise and have been occupied by the idea of recasting the Superman role since.
Corenswet’s has acted in Netflix series ‘The Politician’, HBO drama ‘We Own This City’, as well as a horror flick ‘Pearl’.
