Elon Musk Buys Twitter For $44 Billion

South African born billionaire Elon Musk has officially bought Twitter for a whopping $44 billion.

Musk (who according to Forbes has a net worth of $268 billion) says he believes in the social media network’s potential and is ready to take it to the next level. There’s currently no telling where Twitter will go from here but we can only assume that some impressive changes are about to occur.

Musk, who advocates for free speech, has criticized Twitter’s moderation. He wants Twitter’s algorithm for prioritizing tweets to be public and objects to giving too much power on the service to corporations that advertise.

“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” Musk said in a statement.

Musk has also advocated user-friendly tweaks to the service, such as an edit button and defeating “spam bots” that send overwhelming amounts of unwanted tweets.
