The son of Zimbabwe’s former president Robert Mugabe, Bellarmine Mugabe is set to be presenting a plea deal in his attempted murder case in order to avoid jail time.
Mugabe and his co-accused were arrested last month following a shooting incident at the Mugabe residence in Hyde Park, Johannesburg. Mugabe allegedly shot his 23 year old gardener after a heated argument.
Neigbourhood security also reported that this was not the first shooting at Mugabe’s house. Upon arrival, police arrested Bellarmine and later his co-accused Tobias Mugabe Matonhdze. It’s also believed that Bellarmine hid the firearm used in the shooting as the police’s search produced no results.
Bellarmine Mugabe offers to plead guilty to illegal immigration charges and accept deportation. Mugabe faces at least seven charges including attempted murder, possession of a firearm, pointing a firearm, defeating the ends of justice and breaking the immigration laws of South Africa.
Their case has been postponed to 17 April and the pair remain in custody after abandoning bail application.
This is a developing story. More details to follow.
