For many South Africans who followed the late former finance minister Tito Mboweni on X (Twitter), it comes as no surprise that Lucky Star fish will be honouring the “Twitter celebrity chef”.
Mboweni enjoyed showing off his culinary skills, whipping up meals that often had us in stitches. Over time, we looked forward to engaging with his cooking content, which often included him making Lucky Star fish with lots and we mean lots of garlic.

The Lucky Star team released a brief statement mourning his death and also sharing that they plan on honouring Mboweni the best way they can in the near future.
“At the right time, and with his family’s permission, we will honour his memory in a way that reflects his unique contributions, with more details to follow.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
May his soul rest in peace”, read the statement
Mboweni passed away on Saturday 12 October at a Johannesburg hospital after a short illness. He was 65 years old.
