Nomzamo Mbatha Wins Prestigious Best African Actress Award At Septimus Awards For ‘Shaka Ilembe’

Nomzamo Mbatha’s star continues to rise as she takes home the Best African Actress award at the 2024 Septimius Awards for her compelling performance as Nandi in Shaka Ilembe.

This accolade comes on the heels of her breakthrough international role in Eddie Murphy’s coming 2 America, solidifying her position as a rising star in the global film scene.

As mention on Eye Wittiness News (EWN), Nomzamo Mbatha described Shaka Ilembe as “a most life-changing project and life-altering experience” after learning of her Best African Actress win at the 2024 Septimius Awards. This was in response to the news shared by Desiree Markgraaff, executive producer at Bomb Productions, on social media.

Mzansi Magic’s historical drama, Shaka Ilembe, premiered on June 18, 2023, to widespread acclaim its status as the biggest local blockbuster of the year. Produced by Bomb Productions, this 12-episode series delves into the life of the legendary from childhood to adulthood in 18th century Africa.

Launched in 2024, the Septimius Awards is a distinguished cinematic event held at the iconic TuschinskiTheatre in Amsterdam on the 19th -20th August, 20224. This esteemed ceremony celebrates visionary filmmaking, emerging independent talent, and exceptional storytelling across various genre, including fiction and bob-fiction, animation, television shows, and screenwriting. By recognizing and honouring outstanding achievements in filmmaking and storytelling, the Septimius Awards aims to unite creatives and foster a community that inspire and elevates the art of storytelling.

“I hardly win and I am terrible at this receiving ting, so please bear with me,” Nomzamo Mbatha humbly remarked after declaring her victory, as reported by EWN. “I am experiencing new emotions right now, like pore appreciation and pride. We frequently only honour the measurement systems established by the West. But being acknowledged and respected by your own people is the best feeling in the world. I am adrift in an ocean of gratitude she added.
