Mercedes-AMG ended production on the W463 G-class and as a tribute to that, they made an exclusive version of the AMG G63 model. The Mercedes-AMG G63 Grande Edition.
This final edition G63 is both mean and luxurious, but with a price to pay. A whopping 6 million rand, which is almost 1.5 million rand more than a used decently optioned out 2022 G63. Although it is hard to argue that price-tag when it comes in a beautiful package, and with its limited number of 1 000 worldwide. Only 11 made it to South Africa.
All G63 Grande Editions come in Mercedes’ G-Manufaktur Night Black Magno paintwork and the contrasting matt gold accents on the wheels, grille, side stickers and the new Affalterbach logo on the bonnet. It also has the carbon fibre options on the exterior.
The gold detailing continues on the interior of the G63. With the standard nappa leather and Alcantara seats and dash just highlighted by the gold piping and stitching. And a reason why the W463 generation of G-class is ending is due to the infotainment system, it was in dear need of an update. But as an interior launched in 2018, it really is a timeless one.
The engine performance remains unchanged though, so the 4 litre M177 biturbo V8 with 585 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque. Driving all 4 wheels through a nine-speed torque convertor automatic. And because it’s an AMG V8 it sounds brutal. This is the last G63 without any hybridization, which the new 2025 model has.
Despite its monstrous looks and engine this is still a luxury off-roader that might not be available for long before it all goes electric soon.
