Sophie Ndaba Opens Up About Overcoming Depression and Cyberbullying

Former Generations’s star Sophie Ndaba is opening up about overcoming mental health issues and depression in the last few years. Sophie revealed that she went into depression after a severe weight loss, following her diabetes diagnosis.

“I went through a lot these past years. I was 85kg and lost almost half of that… all I needed to hear at the time, especially from people closest to me, was ‘you’re going to be alright’. Yes, there were those who cheered me up but the ones I expected more from were the ones who said the worst things to me”, shared the actress and businesswoman.

She revealed that in her toughest moments she always wondered what happened to the spirit of Ubuntu following how people were treating her at that time.

“Not a lot of people will understand what you go through or the battle you are fighting but just knowing that there are people in you corner always means a lot”.

After being diagnosed with diabetes, Sophie said that she has faced a lot of challenges including death anticipations, depression, failed marriages, cyberbullying and body shaming.

“People had already written me off and calling me a walking corpse”, she said.

Now Sophie is taking back her power and control of her narrative and she is using her experiences to inspire and uplift other women.

She launched a platform for women to connect and empower each other called “She’s A Wonder” (SAW), she says this platform will serve as a community where like-minded women can come together to share their life stories, offer support and promote healing and restoration.

“This is why I am glad to be talking on the mental health topic because I learnt how to deal with navigating people’s opinions about me. I was told I would never be loved by anyone based on how I look right now. I feel like I will be able to enlighten others on how I chose not to allow anyone’s opinion about me affect me anymore”, shared Sophie.

South Africans have been thanking God for Sophie’s life and using her as a living testimony

“Thank you for not giving up”. We wish Sophie all the best!
