On Tuesday 08 August 2023, Daystar Peterson (31), professionally known as Tory Lanez, was served with a 10–year prison sentence for shooting American rapper Megan Thee Stallion (28), whose real name is Megan Pete, back in 2020.
Tory Lanez has been found guilty of three charges namely; assault with a semi-automatic firearm, being in possession of a loaded illegal firearm, and a discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, as stipulated by prosecutors.

According to the prosecutors handling this case, the Canadian rapper had initially pleaded not guilty back in November 2020. Prosecutors now call for Lanez to be granted 13 years prison sentence.
These charges came about with regards to an incident that took place back in the early hours of 12 July 2020, after Megan Thee Stallion, Tory Lanez, and two other individuals in the car left a party which was hosted by Kylie Jenner.

Megan Thee Stallion told the court that an argument between herself and Tory Lanez arose, regarding their previous sexual relationship. As things escalated, Megan requested to exit the vehicle. That was when Tory Lanez, started shooting at her feet telling her to ‘dance’.
This left Magan Thee Stallion with injuries on her foot. Following her shooting, for the past three years, this incident divided the music industry. Artists like Iggy Azalea, blatantly showed support towards Lanez, and even call for the Judge to put forward a sentence that would be “transformative, not life-destroying”.
Megan Thee Stallion reported that ever since she was shot by Tory Lanez, she has never experienced peace in her life.
In the meantime, Tory Lanez’s legal team said they are yet to file for appeals for the prison sentence and the conviction.
