Singer and reality television star Kelly Khumalo was dropped by the Maseru Jazz Festival due to the ongoing Senzo Meyiwa trial. This happened on Wednesday morning 2nd August 2023 after she was cancelled by another music show called ‘Tribute To Women’ on Monday. Kelly was booked to perform at the Maseru Jazz Festival on the 24th of September, Heritage Day.
She was set to perform in the line up of artists such as Mafikizolo, Tebogo Moloi, Nathi, Encore, Mmamusi, Mamaki Motlogelwa. DJ Thuli, DJ Phat K and many more.
The event organisers of Maseru Jazz Festival released a statement on Wednesday which reads:
“As Maseru we here to inform that (sic) we have seen comments on social media about one of our guest performers, which came to our attention that we need to inform our public and society that we are putting Kelly Khumalo on hold. We respect the professionalism of the legal team on the processes.
“The management of Maseru Park, in the interest of our Jazz Festival, have taken the decision to relieve Kelly Khumalo of the obligation to perform at our festival, and we acknowledge that she is not guilty until proven so.”
The event organisers have said that the reason they stopped Kelly from performing was because on of the ongoing Senzo Meyiwa murder trial. Senzo Meyiwa and Kelly Khumalo share a daughter, Thingo and Kelly is the suspect on Senzo’s alleged assassination .
